Creating Guides with Whale mobile app

Updated this week

Creating step-by-step documentation no longer has to wait until you’re back at your desk. With Whale’s mobile app, you can now record your screen directly from your phone and instantly turn it into a Guide. This makes it easier than ever to capture processes on the go—right when they happen—without losing important context.

Whether you’re explaining a mobile workflow, documenting an issue, or quickly sharing knowledge with your team, mobile screen recording helps you move fast while keeping documentation clear and consistent.

📱 Why Create Guides from the Mobile App?

Many critical processes happen on mobile devices—think approvals, CRM updates, field operations, or internal apps. With mobile screen recording, you can document these workflows exactly as they’re performed.

  • 🚀 Capture knowledge instantly

Record processes the moment they happen—no need to recreate them later.

  • 👀 Show, don’t explain

Mobile workflows are often easier to follow visually than through text alone.

  • 🔄 Always up to date

Because Guides are created directly from real actions, your documentation reflects reality.

📌 Example: A sales rep records how to update a deal in the mobile CRM app and instantly turns it into a reusable Guide for the whole team.

🎥 How It Works: Create a Guide from Your Phone

Step 1: Open the Whale Mobile App

  • Log in to the Whale mobile app on your device.

  • Navigate to the a playbook on card view.

Step 2: Record Your Screen

  • Start a screen recording directly from the app.

  • Perform the process you want to document—tap, swipe, and navigate as usual.

  • Stop the recording when you’re done.

🧠 Tip: Narration isn’t required—Whale’s AI focuses on your on-screen actions.

Step 3: Let AI Create the Guide

  • Give you Guide a name

  • Click on Upload video

Once your recording is uploaded:

  • Whale’s AI analyzes the video

  • Automatically breaks it down into clear, step-by-step instructions

  • Generates:

    • Screenshots

    • Step descriptions

    • A structured, easy-to-follow Guide

Step 4: Done

  • Edit steps if needed (rename, reorder, or adjust descriptions) via our in-app platform, you can't do this in-app.

📋 What You Can Use Mobile Guides For

  • 📦 Field operations & on-site work

  • 📲 Mobile app walkthroughs

  • 🎓 Onboarding employees who work mainly on mobile

  • 🛠 Quick fixes or issue reproduction

  • 🔁 Daily or recurring tasks done on the go

Example: A store manager records the daily opening procedure in a mobile POS app and shares it as a runnable Guide with the team.

🔗 Works Seamlessly with Runnable Guides

Just like desktop-created Guides, mobile Guides can be:

  • Run step by step

  • Checked off as tasks are completed

  • Tracked by managers to monitor progress and completion

This means mobile-recorded Guides don’t just explain a process—they help ensure it’s actually followed.
