Whale now supports Electronic Signature directly on assignments — no third-party e-signature tool required. Instead of just marking an assignment as read, you can require the recipient to sign off on it, giving you a verifiable record that they received, reviewed, and acknowledged the content.
✍️ Recipients sign off on an assignment instead of just marking it done
🔒 Built natively into Whale — no DocuSign, Adobe Sign, or similar integration needed
📋 Every signature is logged with who signed, when, what was signed, and from which IP address
⬇️ Signed records can be downloaded, e.g. to produce an employee's training record
📍 Where It's Available
Electronic Signature works on assignments made from a Playbook or a Card — whether the assignment was created manually or as part of a Training Flow. When building a Training Flow, you can specifically require a signature to complete the assignment, the same way you'd set any other completion requirement.
*Electronic Signature is available on the Advance and Enterprise plans only.
✅ How to Sign Off on an Assignment
Open the assignment from your dashboard, the same way you would to mark it as done.
Review the assigned Card or Playbook content.
Instead of a "Mark as done" button, you'll see a signature field. Add your signature there to complete the assignment.
Once signed, the assignment is marked completed — the same as any other assignment.
🔍 Reviewing Signed Assignments
As an admin or manager, you can follow up on signed assignments from Analytics → Assignments. Opening a specific assignment shows you:
Who signed it
When it was signed
What content was signed
The IP address it was signed from
Who requested the signature
You can also download a signed record — useful whenever you need to produce proof that a specific employee received and acknowledged a piece of documentation, like a company handbook or policy update.
📌 Example Use Case
You roll out an updated employee handbook as a Playbook and assign it to your whole team — either as a one-off assignment or as part of an onboarding Training Flow — with Electronic Signature required. As employees sign off, you can track completion in Analytics, and if you're ever asked to prove a specific employee acknowledged the handbook, you can pull up and download their signed record — no separate HR or e-signature tool needed.
