🧩 What Is a Guide?

A Step-by-Step Guide is a structured content type in Whale that allows you to document a process in a linear, action-focused way. Each step outlines exactly what to do, how to do it, and sometimes why it matters.

Use cases include:

  • How to publish a blog post

  • How to handle a customer refund

  • How to set up a new employee account

  • How to escalate a support ticket

āœļø How to Create a Step-by-Step Guide

Here’s a quick walkthrough:

Option 1: From scratch via 'Create new' menu in playbook

Step 1:

Navigate to a playbook and open the create new menu to select "Create guide"

Step 2:

Give your guide a name and add a description and steps. You can add images by copy pasting/ drag dropping them into the text box.

Step 3: Optional

Turn you guide into a checklist by turning on the run option in the guide settings!

Option 2: From an existing video

See the following article.

Option 3: From a screen recording

See the following article.

āœ… Best Practices

  • Keep it scannable: Use short sentences and clear formatting.

  • Visuals help: Add screenshots or videos to make steps easier to follow.

  • Use consistent formatting: This makes guides more usable across the team.

  • Review regularly: Outdated steps can cause confusion—assign review cycles to owners.
